Game of the Week: Week 2 (September 12th)

The votes are in, and the AAYFL community has selected its Week 2 Game of the Week!

This week, the spotlight shifts to Division 2 as the West Bend Badgers welcome the Menomonee Falls Junior Phoenix for an 8th Grade matchup featuring two teams looking to build on impressive starts to the 2026 season.

Both teams enter Saturday at 1–0, setting the stage for an early-season test between two Division 2 teams hoping to keep their momentum rolling.

Two Different Paths to 1–0

West Bend opened its season on the road against Slinger Blue and found itself in a battle from start to finish. The Badgers came away with an 18–14 victory, earning their first win of the season in a game decided by just four points.

It was exactly the kind of opening-week test that can tell a team a lot about itself. West Bend showed it could find a way to finish a close game, and now the Badgers return home with an opportunity to move to 2–0.

Menomonee Falls had a very different Week 1 experience.

The Junior Phoenix traveled to Slinger to take on Slinger Red and made an immediate statement, rolling to a 32–6 victory. Menomonee Falls scored more points than any other team in its Division 2 grouping on opening weekend while allowing just six.

That performance sends Menomonee Falls into Week 2 with plenty of momentum, but Saturday brings a new challenge: going on the road to face another undefeated team.

Something Has to Give

That's what makes this week's matchup so intriguing.

West Bend has already shown it can come out on top when a game goes down to the wire. Menomonee Falls has shown it can take control of a game and put points on the board in a hurry.

Now, they get each other.
